A Riad is a traditional Moroccan manor house or palace. Thanks to their impressive size and large number of rooms, many have been restored into the perfect accommodation for tourists. These houses are each built around a central patio, or garden, an oasis of peace and quiet, protected from the outside by high windowless walls. Surrounded by rooms, some riads are two-storeys high and they all have a rooftop terrace, decorated with loungers, tables and sofas, generally where breakfast is served.

Each riad is completely different from the next and even their rooms are all distinct. Some of the larger riads have swimming pools in the courtyard and more expensive ones will have jacuzzis in the terraced roofs. Staying in a riad is a unique and fairy-tale like experience that everyone should try at least once when in Morocco.
