Prague, Czech Republic

Visit Prague for plenty of cheap beer, good food and so much more...

View of the Vltava River & Prague Castle

Prague is the capital city of the Czech Republic, with the Vltava River running right through its centre. It's known for its Old Town Square, the heart of its historic core, with colourful baroque buildings, Gothic churches and the medieval Astronomical Clock, which gives an animated hourly show.

Old Town Square:

The Old Town Square boasts a load of things to see and do, with the famous Astronomical Clock, the Church of Our Lady before Týn and St. Nicholas' Church. At the heart of Prague’s Old Town, this majestic and extremely popular by tourists square with its colorful baroque houses is located just between the famous Wenceslas Square and Charles Bridge. The Astronomical Clock built on top of the Town Hall provides a musical show every hour from 8:00 Am to 8:00 PM. You may want to climb up to the Old Town Hall's tower to get a magnificent view of Staromestské Námestí but keep in mind that the climb may be challenging as the steps are quite narrow and steep. You may even want to return back to the square at night time to have a look at the baroque buildings as they are lighted by the towers of the Týn church. Tyn church, also called the Church of Our Lady Before Tyn, is located in Prague’s Old Town Square while the towers or spires of the church can be seen from most everywhere in Prague. Entrance to the Church is completely free. I'd also highly recommend having a drink at one of the best rooftop terraces in the city: Terasa U Prince.

Charles Bridge:

Once the most important and significant bridges in Prague is the Charles Bridge. This beautiful cobblestone bridge is lined with intricate statues and street performers on either side. It is the main bridge that crosses the Vltava River in order to get to Prague Castle, and was named for King Charles IV who commissioned its building. You can even had up to the towers on either end to view the bridge from higher up. The view of the bridge and the church towers makes up the stunning skyline of the city...

Prague Castle:

Once you've crossed the bridge head up to Prague Castle and St. Vitus Cathedral. On the hilltop west of the Vltava River, Prague Castle is actually a huge complex of buildings connected by internal courtyards. The main sights within the Castle grounds are St. Vitus Cathedral, St. George's Basilica, the Royal Palace, the Powder Tower, and of course the Golden Lane in which Franz Kafka used to live for a while. The church houses the tombs of Bohemian kings and rulers of the Holy Roman Empire, and even Old Kind Wenceslas (from the famous Christmas carol). Head up to the Bell Tower of the cathedral where you can find magnificent views across the city. Not too far away from the complex you can also find St Nicholas' Church.

Other places of interest include the Dancing House, a curvy modern office block by architect Frank Gehry, with top-floor restaurant offering city views. The Lennon Wall, a colourful wall featuring Communist-era political slogans, peace messages and a portrait of John Lennon. And finally, the metallic Franz Kafka's Rotating Head created by artist David Černý.

Whilst in Prague I also recommend a real unique experience; if you like beer and you enjoy spas, how about trying out a Beer Spa! Beer SPA in Prague is a great way to relax your mind and body, have a good time alone or with friends or your partner. This experience cost €120 for 2 Persons in 1 Tub: a private room just for you, including unlimited draft beer consumption, bath sheets, towel, and slippers.

And of course you can't leave Prague without trying one of their Chimney Cakes, you can find them everywhere!

I recommend: Old Czech Chimney Cake

Karlova 145/25, 110 00 Staré Město

Here are a few restaurants worth trying:

V Kolkovně

V Kolkovně 910/8, 110 00 Staré Město

Restaurace Mincovna
