Life Abroad

Updated: Dec 8, 2019

I think everybody considers moving to another country to live; whether its the sun, the culture or the quality of life, there is always something that attracts you to the idea. So here is my take on life abroad, living life in sunny Spain.

I spent over 2 and a half years living in the city of León in Spain - it is about 2 hours North of Madrid by high speed train. It's not too far from the beach and neither too far from the mountains. Temperatures can vary from -10°c in the winter and up to 40°c in the summer so we get all the seasons here! León is also known for being the gastrocapital of Spain with its quality tapas bars everywhere you go predominately located in the Barrio Húmedo district.

There are many sites to see in León but I would say the main sight is the Gothic Cathedral which has become an icon in this city. However there are so much more things to see:

  • Casa Botines

  • Basílica de San Isidoro

  • Palacio de San Marcos

  • Murallas de León

  • Arco de la Carcel

  • MUSAC

  • Plaza Mayor

  • Ayuntamiento de León

If any of you have been to Barcelona you would probably have visited the Basílica de la Sagrada Família designed by the famous Gaudi - well he also designed the Casa Botines in León as well! The Palacio de San Marcos has changed throughout the years; it used to be a palace, a prison, a museum and now it is a luxury hotel.

Even further away from the city there are places to visit. If you fancy a little hike, there are some hills very close which gives you great views of the city. Many of you have asked me what I do in my free time. So when I´m not working I obviously love to travel, and when that´s not possible I like to go out with friends, shopping and spend some time at the pool.

Now I'm currently living in Burgos since changing bases at work. Pay attention to my upcoming blogs and I´ll continue to tell you about the rest of my adventures here in Spain!
